Even paradise has its unsavory side.
Word is out that there is trouble in Goa India. Well, in this day and age nothing earth-shaking about that! After all, didn't the first death blow to equanimity and harmony occurred in the Garden of Eden - perpetrated by a jealous and seething-with-rage brother against brother.
The paradise that is Goa has been getting bad raps and the tourists bad vibes from a spate of sensational incidents that discombobulated the locals and shuttered the peaceful, amiable and friendly image of Goa.
The first bluster being bandied around is that Goa's beaches are magnets for sex, drugs and cheap thrills and shenanigans that purportedly underscores a deeper malaise within the realm of power and wealth play involving people in government and high places in society.
As case in point, the world was stunned by the murder of Scarlett Keeling, a teenage British adventurer who was staying with her boyfriend, a 25 year oldGoan tour guide. While a quick closure materialized with the arrest of her confessed killer, the shock waves hover like "Damocles' sword" and gave Goa a stink it doesn't need.
Months later, Goa's reputation reeled from bad to worse with the intrigue and drama provided by the rape of another girl, a German Teenager. The intrigue and rumor mongering reached fever-pitch when it was learned that the suspects were the sons of 2 Goa cabinet ministers. Brats, pampered and abusive lot in an arrogant display of power - lording over the hapless believing they can get away with it. The victim's mother aborted the prosecution of the suspects- seeing that the case is going nowhere. Which says a lot about justice beingunserve in Goa.
So, would you still go for a Goa vacation? I think its a personal thing. Assault and violence of these kind happen anywhere in the world. You may want to probe deeper if these incidents are isolated cases and just blown out of proportion? At the end of the day, you be the judge.
